McALLEN, Texas – December 17th, 2014 – Watermill Express, the nation’s largest drive-up pure drinking water and ice company, along with H-E-B, presents new Samsung tablets and $50.00 H-E-B gift cards to each of the 16 winners of this year’s annual writing contest.

This year’s entrants were 4th Grade students from the McAllen Independent School District. Over 800 essays were written and evaluated with 16 winners being selected. Winners were chosen based on original work submitted by the students on how healthy habits and a healthy lifestyle result in a healthy future. In addition to the students, the teachers of the winning students each received a $75 gift card and the winning schools received an electric water cooler and sports equipment for their campus.

“There is no doubt that the contest improves the writing skills of our 4th Grade students” said Mario Reyna, McAllen Independent School District’s Coordinator for Health and Physical Education. “Equally as important, the writing theme ‘creating a healthy lifestyle’, educated our kids about the importance of being healthy when they are young so they can be healthy when they become adults.”

Over 10,000 students have participated in this contest over the last nine years which brings awareness to the importance of health and the environment. “As a Health and Physical Education Coordinator for more than ten years, I have been involved in many projects,” said Reyna. “This event has to be one of my favorites because we are promoting healthy lifestyles through the practice of writing. I congratulate Watermill Express for their involvement with the McAllen I. S. D.”

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – November, 2014 – Watermill Express, the nation’s largest drive-up pure drinking water and ice company, donated over 1,000 gallons of pure drinking water to H-E-B Feast of Sharing events in 2014.

Watermill Express has proudly supported the H-E-B Feast of Sharing events in the Rio Grande Valley for 24 years. The program offers a free Thanksgiving dinner along with a full day of entertainment for thousands of individuals in communities across Texas and Mexico.

“H-E-B looks forward to the Feast of Sharing each year because it gives us a chance to say thank you to our loyal customers in the Border region, an area of Texas we have served for more than 85 years,” said Danny Flores, H-E-B Public Affairs Manager. “It’s really special to see community partners like Watermill Express come together and celebrate the holiday season by giving back in this unique way.”

Watermill Express participated in eight 2014 H-E-B Feast of Sharing events located in McAllen, Brownsville, Harlingen, Laredo, Eagle Pass, Del Rio, Weslaco and Rio Grande City. BROWNSVILLE, Texas – October 17th, 2014 – Watermill Express, the nation’s largest drive-up vendor of pure drinking water, was happy to provide water for the Brownsville Independent School district’s annual Buddy Fun Meet. Over 100 gallons of pure drinking water were handed out to event participants.

The Buddy Fun Meet is an event that provides opportunities for students with disabilities to interact with “buddies” or non-disabled peers in field and running activities.

“The Buddy Fun Meet is something very special that we do every year that allows our special kids the opportunity to enjoy the day, but also compete against each other in a very positive matter where they all win, and that is something very important for our kids,” Brownsville Independent School District Superintendent Carl A. Montoya said.

About 225 elementary students from the Lopez and Veteran’s High school clusters participated in activities like potato sack toss, running races, football toss, basketball shooting, bowling, tee ball and even a dance area.

The CupK Forever Run/Walk event supports the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley. The service area for the Food Bank is comprised of Hidalgo, Willacy and Cameron Counties. In 2011, over 1 million individuals were fed through our various programs, for a total amount of 31 million pounds of non-perishable, frozen and fresh food distributed through over 200 agencies.

SAN BENITO, Texas – October 7th, 2014 – Watermill Express provides water for San Benito’s National Night Out

SAN BENITO, Texas – October 7th, 2014 – Watermill Express, the nation’s largest drive-up vendor of pure drinking water, participated in the National Night Out event in San Benito, Texas. Over 100 gallons of pure drinking water were handed out to event participants.

National Night Out is a fun event with music, games and free food, designed to introduce the city’s emergency responders to the citizens. The San Benito Police Department believes National Night Out can help prevent crime and keep the community safe.

The National Association of Town Watch established National Night Out in 1984 as an effort to help prevent crime, to foster police and community partnerships and build neighborhood camaraderie.

In 1984, approximately 2.5 million Americans in 23 states participated in the first National Night out. The event now draws more than 37.8 million people from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases.

MISSION, Texas – October 3rd, 2014 – Watermill Express teams up with MissionPink for the 6th Annual Mission Pink Walk/Run

MISSION, Texas – October 3rd, 2014 – Watermill Express, the nation’s largest drive-up vendor of pure drinking water, was honored to team up with MissionPink for the 6th Annual Mission Pink Walk/Run for Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention event in Mission, Texas. Over 120 gallons of pure drinking water were handed out to event participants.

An estimated 4,000 people participated in this year’s event. It is one of largest breast cancer events in the Rio Grande Valley and draws people from as far away as Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Monterrey.

Gina Martinez of Mission, TX applied and received a certificate for a free mammogram. “There is a sense of pride when you see so many people come together to help make it easier for women to get a mammogram. I admire them and will always be grateful.” Martinez said.

PHARR, Texas – September 23, 2014 – Watermill Express supports the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley and the Empty Bowls fundraiser

PHARR, Texas – September 23, 2014 – Watermill Express, the nation’s largest drive-up vendor of pure drinking water, was delighted to support the Empty Bowls fundraising event in Pharr, Texas. Over 50 gallons of pure drinking water were handed out to event participants.

The concept of Empty Bowls began in 1990, when a Michigan high school art teacher, John Hartom, challenged his students to craft ceramic bowls as part of a fundraising effort. The students then invited teachers to a soup lunch, solicited donations and allowed diners to take their empty bowls home as a reminder of those who might not have eaten.

In describing Pharr’s Empty Bowls event, Terri Drefke, CEO of the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley, said “It’s very much a community involvement event. The community gets a lot out of it, and they give back a lot.”

The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley has grown to become the 36th largest in the nation and 5th largest in Texas based on distribution.  They are proudly affiliated with Feeding America and the Texas Food Bank Network. The service area is comprised of Hidalgo, Willacy and Cameron Counties.
